Description

What is Compact Laminate Flooring?

Compact laminate flooring is similar to traditional laminate flooring – a multi-layered synthetic and wood fibre product installed as a clicked-in floating floor upon a moisture barrier layer. Where it differs is that its core is made with compact density fibreboard, plus it has a bonded IXPE layer at the back of the plank. It’s affordable, easy to install, resistant to scratches and wear, and extremely stable in high moisture environments compared to traditional laminate flooring.

  • Click-and-lock systems allow for quick or DIY installation, reducing the project timeline and cost.

Challenges of Compact Laminate Flooring

  • As per SPC and RCB, the underlay cannot be upgraded for enhanced acoustics as the underlay is already bonded to the back of the planks.
  • Hard surface and can sound ‘clickety’ under foot due to floating installation. Additional underlays cannot be used due to bonded acoustic layer.
  • Requires stringent adherence to installation expansion gaps and breaks, limiting the seamless flow of floor from room to room.
